Abstract
|
|
|
There is clinician's rapidly growing appetite for information regarding psychotropic drug freatment of the older individual. Recently the significant psychopharmacologic developments are a great deal more about the specific neurochemistry of
aging
and
of dementia, as well as the role of aging in altering psychotropic drug metabolism and disposition. The treatment issues surrounding disturbed behavior including psychosis continue to be amona the more common and difficult problems facing
clinicians who
work with the elerly. Substantial progress has been made in the use of non-neuroleptic treatment of disordered behavior. I have attempted to make clinical diagnosis and treatment information directly useful for the practicing clinician caring for
the
older patient. Also I have provided clinical guidelines-drug names, doses, interactions, and prescribing recommendations should be readily available as parts of the clinical decision-making process.
